Hyatt House San Juan and Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico
Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico is an after-school program where children from 6 to 18 find a safe environment to develop to their full potential. Services include tutoring, assistance with homework, art classes, sports training and character and leadership development.
Since 2016, BGC of Puerto Rico is focused on initiatives that will help participants break the cycle of poverty. Children and youth receive employability training and participate in entrepreneurship experiences, from developing an idea to pitching it to potential investors. Acknowledging that poverty is generational, mothers of the participants are trained on employability as well.
Hyatt House San Juan has created a successful partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico through which Hyatt employees conduct one hour hospitality courses once a week for three to four months. The courses range from F&B, housekeeping, history of tourism and resume writing and job interviewing.
The Hyatt Community Grant will be used to support the Careers in Tourism Program, which provides participants with training and experiences so they develop the necessary skills to find and maintain employment in the tourism industry.
