The Boys & Girls Club & Hyatt Place San Juan
Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico is an after-school program where children from 6 to 18 find a safe environment to develop to their full potential. Services include tutoring, assistance with homework, art classes, sports training and character and leadership development. Since 2016, we have focused on initiatives that will help participants break the cycle of poverty. Children and youth receive employability training and participate in entrepreneurship experiences, from developing an idea to pitching it to potential investors. Acknowledging that poverty is generational, mothers of the participants are trained on employability as well.
Hyatt Place San Juan has created a successful partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico through which Hyatt employees offer lectures about hotel management to the mothers in the Hotel Management Course and, right now, employs a group of the first graduates. All these mothers have kept their jobs for months after finishing the training, including a mother who was promoted to a supervisory role.
The Hyatt Community Grant will be used to support the Hospitality Management Course, including leadership, training materials and training activities.
