Communities In Schools of Seattle places staff members, called site coordinators, directly in schools to give kids the support they need to be successful. Site coordinators provide broad services to the entire school, working on school-wide problems such as low attendance or bullying. Site coordinators also organize small group activities that focus on developing positive behaviors, building learning skills,  and improving social-emotional skills. At the deepest level, site coordinators work one on one with the kids who are struggling the most. Together they createplans to help move the student toward their goals. Communities In Schools of Seattle’s goal is to empower students to stay in school and achieve in life.

The Seattle Hyatt Family has partnered with CIS of Seattle for several years across a number of drives – collecting school supplies and volunteering to sort and count those supplies, collecting food for hungry families in the winters, and volunteering at Family Health & Fitness Nights to encourage kids and families to learn about healthy eating and exercise habits.

This year, CIS of Seattle expects to serve approximately 4,200 students school-wide and 480 with intensive case management. The Hyatt Community Grant will directly support this work. The students who are case managed will receive services that include basic needs resources like food backpacks; participation in prevention and social/emotional support groups; daily attendance check ins; or tutoring.
