Doorways for Women and Families & Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport

Doorways for Women and Families creates pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault leading to safe, stable and empowered lives.  What began with one shelter 38 years ago has grown into a series of pathways individually tailored for women, men and children seeking safety and housing due to varying hardships. Today, Doorways employs a comprehensive approach, which includes safe shelter and housing, life-changing support services, and community advocacy, resulting in new beginnings for thousands of adults and children.

The team at Hyatt Regency Crystal City has partnered with Doorways for the past two years by helping Financial Independence Track (FIT) clients build job-readiness skills, providing gifts during the annual Holiday Wishes drive, donating Back to School supplies, hosting Dinner with Friends and deep cleaning the Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home to make the emergency shelter feel just as warm and welcoming as Hyatt Hotels do for their own guests.

The Hyatt Community Grant will be used to support the FIT Program, which provides practical financial education that teaches money management and financial decision-making skills, while also offering workforce development support, such as resume writing, interview preparation and employment readiness planning. One such client who benefited from FIT is Cheryl. She beams, “When I think about all that me and my girls are today, all we give back, all we know, all we are on course to accomplish in life, I know we are making our community stronger.  I am a realtor who has unique skills in helping low income families realize the dream of owning a home.  The tools and life skills I learned thanks to the help I got years ago, matched with my strong desire to succeed, made all the difference.”
