STREETS International and Hyatt Regency Danang
STREETS International is part culinary and hospitality school, part full-service restaurant; an ambitious 18-month residential program, including English language training, for terribly disadvantaged, orphaned, out-of-school and trafficked kids. Virtually 100% successful with all graduates employed at international 5-star resorts and hotels, including Hyatt Regency Danang, in Vietnam.
Hyatt Regency Danang is proud to support and work closely with STREETS. In fact, the General Manager and Executive Chef of the hotel have both helped to mentor a number of graduates through their early stages of employment, and have conducted guest lectures and property tours. Hyatt Regency Danang colleagues refer guests to the STREETS Restaurant in nearby Hoi An and the hotel also features the STREETS Cookbook for sale in the bakery and coffee shop.
Recently one STREETS graduate named Van, was awarded Employee of the Year at Hyatt Regency Danang with a trip to Singapore, an incredible feat for a teenager from the streets of Danang.
Another graduate, Linh, is from the Co Tu ethnic minority community. Prior coming to STREETS she lived in an isolated mountainous area with her subsistence farming family and 6 other children. Linh had no choice but to stay home and help the family farm. Working closely with STREETS, Linh was employed at Hyatt Regency Danang as a part time server. After working there for a short time, her English language skills and good guest service were well noted. She was offered a full time position, which she proudly accepted.
STREETS and Hyatt Regency Danang continue to work closely together to ensure that more well trained and deserving kids from STREETS have the same possibilities.
This Hyatt Community Grant will provide 3 daily nutritious meals for one year to 25 new STREETS Trainees in Class 9, starting in December, 2015.
