Baltimore Outreach Services and Hyatt Regency Baltimore

Hyatt Regency Baltimore is thrilled to award Baltimore Outreach Services (BOS), a nonprofit that provides housing, education and job opportunities for homeless women with children in the Baltimore metropolitan area, with a 2015 Hyatt Community Grant.

To help move women to work, BOS operates a successful culinary arts job training program, teaching women skills required to secure entry level work in commercial food service. Since introducing the culinary training program in 2005, over 135 women have graduated the course with skills to pursue a career in food services. However, even in the best economic times, it is difficult for the women in our program to find viable employment opportunities. To assist in improving employment opportunities for the graduates, the culinary program was expanded to include an 8-week internship.  The culinary internship gives the graduates additional time to hone their culinary skills and provides valuable on-the-job work experience and employment references.

Hyatt Regency Baltimore colleagues have demonstrated true community spirit, providing both internships in food service and job opportunities for graduates of the BOS culinary program; giving the women a chance to utilize their skills to earn the income necessary to care for their families. Currently four BOS culinary graduates are employed at Hyatt Regency Baltimore.

This Hyatt Community Grant will be used to support BOS’s culinary arts eight-week job training program and over half of the cost of the program in 2016, including cooking supplies, uniforms, transportation stipends and class materials.
